A Fiery Weekend
The first weekend in March was a busy one for Sark’s Fire and Rescue Service, although not because they were called out to emergencies. Instead the force of eighteen were split into two groups each spending a full day doing training exercises with expert fire fighters from UK company Fire Safe International. As well as brushing up on their use of hoses and breathing apparatus the crews were able to practice using foam for the first time to extinguish fires set in a confined area near the harbours. Sark’s Fire and Rescue Service team members are fully trained volunteers who practice once a month and are on call seven days a week.
