Another Gold for Sark
Sark-born powerboat champion John Guille was honoured this weekend when a bollard painted gold was unveiled at Maseline Harbour. The project was organised by Conseiller Paul Williams to celebrate John’s win at the UIM Class 3A World Offshore Powerboat championships in Guernsey last September. John and his team came first overall in the three-race championship in rough conditions in a boat that was modified and rebuilt in Sark. John was delighted with the accolade and said that he has been to award ceremonies in Monaco where he met the Prince but that wasn’t a patch on having a bollard in the harbour painted gold on his home island of Sark. John’s grandmother Georgina unveiled the bollard and plaque. In 2012 Sark’s post box was painted gold in honour of Sark equestrian Carl Hester who won a gold medal for dressage in the London Olympics.
