On Sunday 16th September Jo Birch led a group of volunteers to clean Grande Grève beach as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch Big Weekend. Beachwatch is a national initiative supporting local individuals, groups and communities in caring for their local shoreline and the Big Weekend, now in its 19th year, is their flagship event. The rubbish is catalogued as it is picked up and the records are sent back to the Marine Conservation Society so that they can target their campaign on reducing beach litter. There was very little rubbish on Grande Grève but, as elsewhere, plastics made up the majority of the debris.
