Big Squeeze on the Coupée
On Monday 4th March the island’s freight boat, the Sark Viking, arrived in Maseline Harbour with some unusual items of cargo strapped to the deck. The machinery was lifted off by crane and included a Mericrusher road grader and an enormous tractor to operate it. The equipment and its driver Owen were here to work on Sark’s lanes alongside the island’s road repairing team. As well as several roads on the main island the Mericrusher was taken over the Coupée to work on Little Sark. It was the first time this large tractor has been taken across the Coupée and although careful measurements were taken in advance it was a tense moment for all involved. In places both front tyres rubbed along the edge of the road but with time and some careful guiding the machinery made it there and back with no problems.
