Chief Pleas Members Sworn In
Sark’s Court sat recently to swear in the new and returning members of Chief Pleas (Conseillers) who stood for election in December last year. There were 16 seats available and as there were 16 candidates all were automatically selected without the need for an election. There were two two-year terms immediately available that, by ballot, were taken by returning Conseillers Chris Nightingale and Tony Ventress who were sworn in last month. Of the remaining fourteen Conseillers eight have been in office before and five are completely new to Chief Pleas. The new members are Elsie Courtney, Colin Goulds, Nick Maloney, Roger Norwich, Jane Norwich and Arthur Rolfe. After the court session there was an extraordinary meeting of Chief Pleas to elect Conseillers on to the fifteen committees that run the island. A new structure for these committees has been developed which came into effect with the new house of Chief Pleas. For information on this as well as public notices and agendas and decisions of Chief Pleas visit Sark’s government web site at www.sark.gov.gg.
