Easter Fun at the Duck Pond
The Beauregard duck pond here on Sark is usually a peaceful place with the occasional visitor stopping by to feed the ducks but this Friday the mallards were in for something of a shock. Around a hundred people gathered for the traditional Good Friday activity of sailing model boats on the pond, an event that has been taking place for at least the last sixty years. All sorts of vessels took to the water from traditional sailing boats to modern, remote control powerboats. Plenty become lodged in the brambles and had to be rescued but the children present were more than happy for an excuse to wade into the water. Refreshments were on hand thanks to Zoe and Linda Adams who were selling hot chocolate and hot cross buns with all of the £121 raised going to charity. This year Sark’s junior wildlife group Sark Watch were the beneficiaries. Group member Katie Knight raised an extra £90 by raffling a cake she had made and beautifully decorated to look like a bird’s nest complete with Easter chicks, all part of her project to gain her Kestrel Award.
