INAUGURAL OPERA SARK FESTIVAL
Friday 11th September
Opera Sark is proud to announce the inaugural festival of Opera on Sark. Opera Sark’s Artistic Director, Mark Llewelyn Evans, has assembled a group of performers who will delight you through the music of the greatest operatic composers. Running from Wednesday 9th through to Saturday 12th September, we will build an atmosphere of anticipation leading to a Gala Concert of the greatest arias, duets and ensembles from the best loved operas.
On the afternoon of Friday 11th starting at 4pm Opera Sark will hold a Masterclass at the Island Hall given by Yvonne Howard, which will be followed by an Audience with the Performers. The Master Class is designed to give an opportunity for six to eight young singers who are working towards exams, auditions or a potential musical career of their own. Yvonne, supported by her fellow performers, will coach the students on technique and interpretation both for voice and performance. Students are asked to bring a piece they are preparing for examination, audition or simply learning for fun with two copies of the music, one for Yvonne, the other for Jane. The piece should be from opera, musical theatre or any classical repertoire. They should be ready to perform and should not be worried about doing so in front of an audience who will get a very rare opportunity to observe the tuition process. There is no doubt that the students and audience alike will be able to hear clearly the difference in the performances from the students before and after the Masterclass. This will be followed by an informal question and answer session when the company will reveal the secrets of life as a professional singer. Mark will lead the “Audience with the Performers” taking questions from the floor, this promises to be very entertaining and amusing. This event is ticketed at £10 and can be obtained through Ticket Source at this Ticket Office.
