Giving Thanks for Pets & Other Animals
St Peter’s church hosted the year’s most unusual service this Sunday in the form of Sark’s annual Thanksgiving for Pets and Animals. Organised by ‘Churches Together in Sark’, the congregation brought along pets of all shapes and sizes including dogs, Coco the guinea pig, Twitch the bunny, Yogi the degu (a very cute furry animal like a small guinea pig with a long tail in case you were wondering) and Chilli the chinchilla as well as many memories of pets no longer with us. Sark’s famous sheep Persil processed around the church while Rosie the Guernsey cow and Ronaldo the Clydesdale carriage horse listened with others to the service relayed outside. Methodist minister in training Karen Le Mouton, Sarah Cottle and the Reverend Julia Dallen led the service, readings and prayers and pupils from Class 2 at Sark School read special prayers of thanksgiving that they had written for pets, farm animals and wildlife all around the world.
