It’s Scarecrow Time!
Weird and wonderful animals are appearing in the island’s hedgerows and doorways this weekend as the creative powers of the residents are put to the test in the annual scarecrow competition. This year’s theme is land animals and strangely two out of the three winning contestants chose to make giraffes. The Baker and Rose families joined forces with a three generation team to create their giraffe at the top of the lane to Port a la Jument gaining a third prize and Esmée and Ruairi Byrne came second with the giraffe that they built in their garden at Maison Rouge with a little help from their Dad Peter. First prize went to Margaret Longlois and her grandsons who built ‘Monkeying Around’, an island scene complete with palm tree, monkeys, a snake and a giraffe peering over the wall. The scarecrows will be in place for the next week and Sark Tourism have prepared a scarecrow trail complete with a quiz with questions about each one. Forms are available from the Visitor Centre and all of the funds raised will go to the Professor Saint Medical Trust.
