Junior Naturalists Win Awards
Three members of Sark School’s wildlife group Sark Watch were given awards this week as part of the Wildlife Watch scheme. Five-year-old Harry Knight gained his Hedgehog Award having completed eight wildlife activities and was presented with a certificate and hedgehog badge. Nine-year-old Joyce and Katie who is eight have been working towards the next level, the Kestrel Award, and both gave presentations with pictures to explain their work. Joyce’s project included drawing an owl, writing a poem, taking part in a litter pick, keeping a nature diary of the wildlife in her garden and making a bird box. Katie’s work included making a beautiful cake in the shape of a bird’s nest complete with eggs, writing a song about sea gulls, taking part in a beach clean and building a butterfly house. Both girls received certificates and a book to help them with the next level of their natural history research for their Ranger Award. Joyce is going on to study butterflies and Katie is interested in hedgehogs.
