Limited edition coins presented to children of Sark School
On Friday the children of Sark School were presented with their own special edition 450th anniversary souvenir coin, designed and packaged by local photographer Rosalie Smith. Members of the 450th Committee, with Michael Beaumont, gathered to watch the assembly held by committee member Jan Guy. Jan involved the children in a very interesting short talk on the history of Sark families, and divided them into three groups: one of children who are direct descendants of Helier de Carteret or other de Carteret families, one group who are direct descendants of the first settlers of the island and one group who are ‘newcomers’. Jan’s message was very clear through; that all living on Sark are Sark people and part of the island, whether they are relatives of families long ago or have just moved here. All children of Sark, from birth to 16, with receive a complimentary 450th coin, normally worth £5. They can be purchased from Sark Visitor Centre, and other outlets on the Island.
