Meet Sark’s newest residents.
Despite the terrible weather there are signs of spring appearing all around Sark, not least of all in the fields of sheep farmer Eugene Baker. His ewes started lambing this week and some are already spending the day times outside with their twins and triplets while enjoying the warmth and shelter of the barn at night. Eugene works with fellow sheep farmer Dave Scott at this busy time of year and they plan their lambing times so that Dave’s sheep start lambing a couple of weeks after Eugene’s so that the two farmers can help each other. Rossford De Carteret’s sheep lamb early, back in December, and out on Little Sark Phil Perrée is expecting the patter of little hooves any day now. The sight of the new lambs tottering around on their surprisingly long legs and the sound of their bleating calls to their mothers are welcome reminders that spring is on its way.
