New Book Celebrates Channel Island Architecture
Architectural historian John McCormack was in Sark this week as a guest of La Société Sercquaise to launch his new book, ‘Channel Island Houses.’ This comprehensive study includes information on 2,500 houses, some dating back as early as the twelfth century, with a detailed study of around ninety houses including several historic buildings on Sark such as La Seigneurie and Le Manoir. This ground breaking celebration of local architecture took John over 17 years to complete and records not only the changing style of buildings over the centuries but the variations on layout and design unique to each of the Channel Islands. The book costs £65 and is available on Sark from La Société Sercquaise, in Guernsey from the Press Shop, Lexicon and La Société Guernesiaise and in Jersey from La Société Jersiaise. Anyone interested elsewhere can contact John directly to order a copy by calling him on 01481 720303.
