Opera Comes to Sark
Last week saw the launch of a new event for the island with Opera Sark, a four day feast of live music from Puccini, Mozart and Verdi. There were concerts at Stocks and La Sablonnerie Hotels and a gala performance at the Island Hall on Saturday evening. A master class was held on Friday afternoon and during the day the pupils of Sark School took part in a workshop with four of the performers to learn all about Mozart’s opera, the magic flute. After rehearsing all morning and after lunch they gave a performance to friends and family in the school hall in the afternoon. The organisers were delighted with the event, which included soloists from the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, and they plan to make it a bi-annual festival.
