Pam and Fred
Dave Scott’s pet lamb Persil may have stolen the show in the first series of BBC Two’s An Island Parish, but this spring there’s a new woolly character on the island. Rossford De Carteret’s lamb Fred was born at the end of December by caesarean section but neither her twin or her mother survived. Rossford’s wife Pam stepped in to hand rear the orphan and, although Fred’s future looked bleak for her first couple of days of life, she’s now flourishing. The two are inseparable and are often seen in the Avenue and out and about around the island. When asked about the choice of name Pam explained that the gender of a lamb is only apparent after a few days by which time the Fred name had stuck.
