Racing Sheep & Carnival Weekend
After a slightly damp start, this year’s Sheep Racing and Carnival Weekend got off to a flying start. Saturday was race day with seven sheep races as well as food stalls, games and Dodgy Dave the bookmaker. Cerys was crowned as Miss Sark Princess and India from Manchester was awarded the title of Miss Sark Visitor Princess. There were party nights on Friday and Saturday with live music and the crowning of Willow as Miss Sark, the first time this has been awarded for ten years. New for this year was the Dame of Sark competition with Gerry taking the title and Gavin as runner up. Sunday was a family fun day beginning with a fancy dress parade and featuring lots of old fashioned games like tug of war and egg and spoon races as well as a hugely popular tractor-pulling race. The weekend attracted hundreds of visitors and the funds raised go to the Professor Saint Medical Fund that helps islanders with prescription charges.
