Remembrance Sunday on Sark
A large congregation gathered at the Men of Sark memorial outside St Peter’s Church today for the Service of Remembrance. Members of the Royal British Legion marched to the memorial where Ash Jarman played the Last Post on the final stroke of eleven. This was followed by two minutes silence, then the names of each of the 19 Men of Sark who gave their lives (there were 18 in the First World War and 1 in the Second) were read aloud. The service then continued inside the church. Almost £900 was collected for the Poppy Appeal this year by the door to door poppy sales, carried out by local school children, and by those taking part in PJ Day on Friday.
