Sark to the Rescue
Sark-based photographers Lydia Bourne and Sue Daly have joined forces to create ‘Sark to the Rescue’, a ‘Calendar Girls’ style calendar featuring members of the island’s fire, ambulance and police services. In keeping with the original Women’s Institute calendar, the models for each month’s picture are nude with carefully placed props to cover their modesty. Each of the 12 photographs were taken at key locations around the island including Point Robert Lighthouse, the Harbour Cafe, the Seigneurie, the Harbour Cafe, the Coupée, the Mermaid Tavern and the island’s prison. One of Sark’s fire tenders and an ambulance also star in the images as well as the doctor’s tractor, a discreetly placed pair of handcuffs or two, a couple of Guernsey cows and Ronaldo the carriage horse. Funds to cover the printing costs were raised by a jumble sale in May so that every penny from sales of the calendar will go to charity. Half will be donated to Sark’s Emergency Services and the rest will be given to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, the charity that the original Calendar Girls themselves supported. ‘Sark to the Rescue’ is a 2014 calendar and will be launched on the 12th June at the Island Hall at 6pm after which it will be on sale at various outlets around Sark for £10. It can also be posted. Email Lydia on firstname.lastname@example.org to order your copy.
