Sark’s Got Talent
The Island Hall was full to bursting on the 15th of March when around two hundred people gathered to enjoy an evening of home-grown entertainment at the ‘Sark’s Got Talent’ concert. The event was organised by Leanne Joyner and her team of helpers and included singing, comedy, music and even poetry. There were twenty-one acts beginning with the children in Class One singing their Easter chicken song and Kiana, Hazel, Yasmin, Mali, Kai and Willow were among the other young performers who sang solos or duets. The evening continued with piano pieces by Kevin Adams and Lydia Bourne, a choral piece by Sark Singers and guitar accompanied numbers by Peter Gabriel-Byrne and Ash, to name but a few. Heath delighted the audience by clucking television theme tunes while dressed as a giant chicken and harbour master Jim revealed a tattoo-clad punk alter ego for his hilarious stand up routine. Carl Ward from Island FM expertly hosted the evening and the four judges from Guernsey included Jess Stevenson and Helena Carter from Channel Television. The audience voted for their favourite acts then it was down to the judges to decide the order of the top three. Sarah Andrews took first place for her stunning performance of the Duffy song Warwick Avenue and the runners up were comedian Jim and Kai for his wonderful performance of the Oasis hit Wonderwall. The evening was a huge success, raising almost £3,000 for the Click Sargent children’s cancer charity, and one that those who were there will remember as a great night out for years to come.
