Stamp Issues to Celebrate Sark’s History
Both Jersey and Guernsey Post Offices are issuing stamps to coincide with the island’s 450th Sark Fief anniversary. Jersey Post are issuing a miniature sheet on 6th August, the day of the signing of the charter that created the Fiefdom of Sark, which features St Ouen’s Manor in Jersey, the home of Helier de Carteret who became Sark’s first Seigneur. Guernsey Post have issued a set of five stamps celebrating the island’s history including St Magloire, Sark as a haven for pirates and wreckers, the French invasion of 1549, the arrival of Helier and the ill-fated silver mines. They also have a one-pound miniature sheet illustrated with images of Elizabeth the First, the Sark Charter and the bronze cannon gifted by the Queen to Helier de Carteret. The stamps will be released on 22nd July.
