Starry Events Coming Up in Sark
Sark Astronomy Society (SAstroS) has a whole galaxy of events planned over the next couple of weeks. This Wednesday they are holding a quiz at the Island Hall starting at 7.30pm. Teams of up to six are welcome to take part and, although it’s a general knowledge quiz, there is sure to be a few questions on all things astronomical. The entry fee of £5 includes sandwiches in the break. Call the Island Hall on 01481 832666 to book. SAstroS are also running a competition to name their fabulous new telescope. It’s only a pound to enter and forms are available at the Visitor Centre. The big event is the Easter Starfest which takes place between 18th and 20th April. The new telescope will be unveiled and the winner of the naming competition will be announced. Dr Marek Kukula, the public astronomer from the Royal Observatory Greenwich, will be on hand giving talks and leading stargazing as will astronomer Bob Bowers. Fingers crossed that the skies will be clear so that we can all enjoy the fabulous starry skies above Sark.
