Saturday 21st January brought the first jumble sale of the year. As ever, crowds gathered at the Hall waiting for the door to open at 2 o’clock. As well as jumble there were cake and book stalls and a raffle and tombola. The event was organised by head teacher Sark Cottle and in only an hour and a quarter raised just over seven hundred pounds. This has been split between Manorlands Hospice in West Yorkshire, which cared for Sarah’s mother last summer, and the Professor Saint Fund. Three weeks later the Carnival Committee held another jumble sale that raised £700 that also went to the Professor Saint Fund that subsides the cost of islanders’ prescriptions.
