Remembering the Men of Sark
The Sark Branch Standard of the Royal British Legion was paraded at the Men of Sark Memorial Cross on Friday to mark the 100th anniversary of the loss of two local soldiers who gave their lives in the First World War. James Guille from Dos D’Ane and James Stephen Carré were both killed during a German counter-attack at Le Doulieu in northern France on 13th April 1918. Neither of their bodies were recovered and both are remembered on the Ploegstreet Memorial to the Missing in Belgium. The Standard for the ceremony here on Sark was borne by John Hunt, Ash Jarman played the trumpet and Reg Guille gave a short address.
