Sark Opera 2019
The 2019 Sark Opera festival held its opening night on 5th September in the Seigneurie marquee, followed by a lunchtime performance at La Sablonnerie Hotel, then an evening gala performance at Stocks Hotel and finally a very special matinee performance at La Seigneurie. The musical programmes consisted of an uplifting mix of classical opera and lighter musical pieces.
Each performance was wonderfully intimate in the smaller, relaxed venues on Sark. Very few opportunities arise when an audience can sit so close to such world-class performers and immerse themselves totally in the closeness of the music, enhanced even further by the artists singing whilst walking amongst the audience.
Mark Llewellyn Evans, artistic director of Opera Sark, previously the principal baritone of the Welsh National Opera leads the group of internationally acclaimed opera performers: sopranos Victoria Joyce and Jassy Husk, mezzo-soprano Yvonne Howard, tenor Christopher Duffy and up and coming new talents Manon Ogwen Parry and Archie Buchanan. Each performance was accompanied by the very talented pianist Charlie Forrest.
Sark Opera is set to return in 2020, thanks to its gracious hosts Seigneur Christopher Beaumont and his wife Sarah.
